Sleepless in Seattle

I have been all over the United States except the Northwest area. I always want to visit Seattle. I first heard about Seattle from the movie- Sleepless in Seattle. I still remember the scene that Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks say “Magic” at the same time when Tom Hanks talks about his deceased wife.

I know this is one of the rainiest cities in the US but looking at the bright side that means at least, Seattle must be greener and more natural than other cities I have visited.

I arrived at Seattle around 4.30 pm. It welcomes me with all dark clouds and rain. At least I know that I land on the right city.

I am very excited to see my friend- Mark the first time after we have been talking on the phone for two years.

He picks me up at the airport. After he knows that I have not eaten anything the whole day, he takes me to a small Thai restaurant named Mali. He has Garlic Chicken, while I have Pad Prik King pork. The food here is not bad at all.

He knows that I like to have green tea so, after the main course; he takes me to a very cute and colorful teahouse that located at the university town near the University of Washington. In a way, it reminds me of the Harvard Square in Boston except the one in Boston is bigger and more crowded.

As usual, I have hot green tea and toasts with condensed milk. I really feel like I have too many sweets lately. Not a good thing, but I love it!!

We have a long and interesting conversation about our life and relationship. It’s a long story that I have to write separately. To make it short, he is so positive and hopelessly romantic when he talks about relationship. I think we share the same value about the ideal relationship. We are joking about we do not want to be in our 40s and still preying on those young boys . As much as I want that ideal relationship to happen, however, I am not sure if I will have enough patience to wait for that kind of person to walk into my life .

I just wonder aloud that I am not sure if I have lived in New York City too long and I am a little jaded with my own ideas of having relationship because people here just look for quick hook up and then move on. I tell him it’s very difficult to have a relationship in the city that originates the Sex and the City saga. We laugh.

He is right, maybe people I have met are not the right one. So he asks me to move to Seattle. I am not sure if I want to live here unless I have a family and I want to raise my kids. I like when he passionately talks about his parent how they met, how they fell in love and how they got through all difficulties together. I smile when he tells if he meets someone he loves; he will never give up and let him go.

I think to myself, if he starts singing Your Song by Elton John, I would fly back to New York tomorrow, pack my stuff and move here .

After that make-me-smile conversation, we go to Blockbuster to rent two movies- the Side Way and Meet the Forkers. Since it’s still raining, so it should be a good idea just to watch movies at home and relax.

This is a thing about living in a small city. You have a better quality of life. His apartment complex is like a resort, near a lake and he pays just $660 a month plus all amenities like swimming pool, Jacuzzi and sauna.

Paying $660 in New York City? You got a tiny box in a filthy building and share a bathroom.

After we get back, I suggest an idea. We jump into the Jacuzzi and then bake ourselves in the Sauna. Tomorrow, I want to try the Tanning machine there. It should be fun, never done it before.

We end up the first night with watching the Side Way together. I love this movie.

I am sleepless in Seattle. It is 1 am here (or 4 am in the East coast) Mark is in his dream land but I am still writing my blog. I need to call the radio station to look for someone to put me to sleep tonight or the rest of my life.

Good night my unborn prince.
