Tuk Tuk Diary (Tritp TO Thailand: My eyes surgery: LASIK)

Finally, I have a LASIK yesterday!! It took just 20 minutes, but it was pretty brutal 20 minutes for me.

I always want to have a LASIK because I hate wearing glasses. Lately, that darn glasses gives me a headache, plus I feel (and a lot of people told me) I look better and younger without glasses and it is one of my goals this year that I want to be more attractive and I believe that it might help LOL.

So, with enough reasons, I suddenly decided to have LASIK.

The procedure started from Monday. I spent 3 hours to measure my eyes’ sight, pressure etc, then I had to study the side effect of the LASIK.

Wednesday was my surgery day. The surgery was not that bad or painful but it’s scary. Just imagine when you see the doctor is working on your eyes. You see the metal equipment moving on your eyes ball. It is pretty freaky. The most painful moment for me was when the doctor pressing the round metal into my eyes socket, and I was asked to open my eyes. I was blackout. It’s very brutal but it took about 2 minutes. It was a process that he needed to open my eyes ball in order to shoot the laser in.

All the process was done about 20 minutes. Not bad, but I had to have my eyes closed for a day.

I walked out of the LASIK center and looked like an alien with the big white eyes shield on my face. I slept all day after my surgery.

Talking about the medical treatment, Thailand has become an international hub for sick people all around the world LOL. The hospitals here are crowded with foreigners. Those hospitals have upgraded their technology and skills to be a world class medical center. I think we have all necessary resources like skill doctors, world-class nurses and excellent facilities. The most important thing is we provide great services with lower expenses comparing to those foreigners’ home countries. I have noticed that services are dramatically improved everywhere: supermarkets, hospitals, restaurants and etc. Perhaps, our country still has plenty of cheap labors; we tend to use a lot of people to make sure that their customers are satisfied. Those staffs are well-trained. They are very polite, hospitable and, of course, they always have a smile.

Like the LASIK center I had, the service is great. The security impressed me by walking me down to the parking lot on my surgery day. I was sure he would carry me down if I asked him.

Today is my first day I can see things without glasses. Even though it is not perfect yet, it just makes my world look different. However, I still have to be careful not to let any water or sweat get into my eyes for a week. That means I have to stay away from the steamed room for a while. Don’t get me wrong, I just love to use the steamed room after heavy working out at the California gym. It relaxes my stiff muscle.

Let see what will happen with me without glasses. Wish me luck!!

I think about the song that fit my new world right now, and I come up with this song.

Yes, I WANT TO BREAK FREE!!

Artist:

Queen

Title:

I Want To Break Free

Words and music by john deacon

I want to break free
I want to break free
I want to break free from your lies
You're so self satisfied i don't need you
I've got to break free
God knows god knows i want to break free

I've fallen in love
I've fallen in love for the first time
And this time i know it's for real
I've fallen in love yeah
God knows god knows i've fallen in love

It's strange but it's true
I can't get over the way you love me like you do

But i have to be sure
When i walk out that door
Oh how i want to be free baby
Oh how i want to be free
Oh how i want to break free

But life still goes on
I can't get used to living without living without
Living without you by my side
I don't want to live alone hey
God knows got to make it on my own
So baby can't you see
I've got to break free

I've got to break free
I want to break free yeah

I want i want i want i want to break free....

Tuk-Tuk Diary (My Weekend in Thailand)

It is my first weekend in Bangkok. Unlike last year, weather is quite comfortable this year. It is 20 degrees below normal.

Tae is the first friend I meet. He picks me up at the party around 10 pm then takes me to a dance club. This dance club is not that big but it is packed with tourists and local goers. The crowd here is mostly young like in their early 20s. However, there are some old white guys who should be in the nursing home or staying home with their partners in stead of trying to pick up young boys here. I feel sad for them because I know a lot of people are very critical to them and look at them pathetically. Even though I think they have all rights to have their own fun too, I am not sure what they will get from here, maybe more loneliness and sadness.

My friend is such a popular icon here; he introduced me to tons of people that I cannot even keep up the name. The night goes on, people are having fun. I have some new friends. One of them is from Hong Kong; we hang out and he surprises me with his massage skill. You know, it is a long day; a nice and relaxing massage is very helpful. This is a thing about clubs in Bangkok; the music here is pretty lame. The beats are so weird. They are faster than the normal beats. But the atmosphere is great. We have a blast night anyway no matter how bad of the music.

Our night is done pretty early because clubs here are closed at 1-2 am.

The next day, Tae takes me to the fitness center called: California. It is very hip and clean with plenty of brand new equipment. I have noticed lately that gyms become quite popular in Bangkok. Perhaps, there are a lot of foreigners who are health conscious and have a big purchasing power. Moreover, it shows that our country economy has improved because to join the gym you need to make enough money to pay for the fee that is quite expensive. The numbers of members are growing faster than the stock market. It am not sure if it is just a craze or people really become health conscious.

Talking about the life style here, Bangkokians seem to spend their life more luxurious than a year ago. I am not sure if the money they are spending is a real purchasing power or just the money that they are borrowing from the credit card. I think this is one of our government’s goals trying to boost the economy by providing very cheap interest to ordinary people. This is like a double-edge sword policy. In the short run, people are spending money that leads to the higher consumption and growth GDP. However, in the long run, people will spend more than they earn, it will lead to the higher debt for each consumer. Ultimately, they will not be able to pay off those debts, banks will be in trouble. Consumers have to file bankruptcy. The economy will sink because people do not have money and are still in debt. It will be a vicious cycle like in South Korea 5 years ago.

Besides, from my observation, the gap between the haves and the have-nots in Bangkok is getting wider. It’s like I am walking between heaven and earth. While some people are having dinner in a very expensive restaurant, some people are eating on the street that is full of pollution. While some people are relaxing after work in a very trendy gym with air conditioner, I see those street vendors are working in the darn hot weather and most of them have to work until midnight. On the street of this heaven and earth, while some kids are sitting in the Mercedes Benz, I see those poor kids are selling flowers at every traffic lights in Bangkok. They should be in school instead of running around in the traffic that is very dangerous.

It just reminds me of how much blessing I am comparing to those people.

Well, this is life, I guess. But I believe if we just look around, we might find some meanings and compassions.
OK, come back to the gym. The music and light system here is much better than the club last night. We agree that it reminds us of the Roxy on Manny Lehman night. The music is really great that it pushes us to the edge of working out. The next thing we know, our bodies are sore and we have to end up relaxing our muscle in the steamed room.

Yes, there are plenty of cuties here. It’s too many eyes candies here for me. I am dizzy now.

After working out and having dinner with Tae, I have to run to see another group of my friend. They are very patient with me because I am so late. It is nice to know that the friendship that we have been planting together is still growing strong. We are still looking forward to seeing each other no matter how long we have been apart.

Real friendship is tested by the distance and time.

I am very tired. Dance last night, go to bed very late, go to gym, sweat my ass off in the sauna then go out with friends.

I am falling to sleep in my friend’s car now.
