The Summit of the Americas- Quote of the Day!!

Thousands of people are protesting the Summit of the Americas in Argentina. The biggest Latin countries like Brazil and Argentina oppose the Free Trade Accord or F.T.A.A. To benefit from the free trade or not is debatable but definitely the country that will gain the most benefit is theUnited State.

However, one of the arguments that the US representative always use is about the job creation and poverty. They believe that Free Trade is the magic bullet to cure those problems. However, I think people at the bottom will be less likely to benefit from the free trade. The group that will benefit the most is the big corporate, upper class or educated people. That means the rich will get richer, the poor will be poorer and the gap between these two groups will be wider even though the poor will make more money, they cannot keep up with the rich and the spike of the cost of living.

Anyway, this is a quote that I think it hits right to the US government.

“In a section on job creation, United States representatives have suggested taking note of "the 96 million people who live in extreme poverty" in Latin America and the Caribbean, subsisting on $1 a day or less. But Venezuela would agree to that statement, Latin American diplomats said, only if the following phrase were also included: "while in the United States there are 37 million poor."”

The Ghosts of the White House

One night, George W. Bush is tossing restlessly in his White House
bed. He awakens to see George Washington standing by him. Bush asks
him, "George, what's the best thing I can do to help the country?"

"Set an honest and honorable example, just as I did," Washington
advises and then fades away.

The next night, Bush is astir again and sees the ghost of Thomas
Jefferson moving through the darkened bedroom. Bush calls out, "Tom,
please! What is the best thing I can do to help the country?"

"Respect the Constitution, as I did," Jefferson advises and dims from sight.

The third night, sleep is still not in the cards for Bush. He awakens
to see the ghost of FDR hovering over his bed. Bush whispers,
"Franklin, what is the best thing I can do to help the country?"

"Help the less fortunate, just as I did," FDR replies and fades into the mist.

Bush isn't sleeping well the fourth night when he sees another figure
moving in the shadows. It is the ghost of Abraham Lincoln. Bush leads,

"Abe, what is the best thing I can do right now to help the country?"

Lincoln replies, "Go see a play."

19 Signs You're Wasting Your Time

By: Steve Calechman, Illustrations by: Peter and Maria Hoey

1. Any weather small talk that lasts longer than 4 seconds (unless it involves a car floating away). If you have nothing to talk about other than the weather, face it, you have nothing to talk about.

2. Three dates. No tongue.

3. Two years. No raise.

4. The person running the meeting asks, "Could someone get the lights?"

5. Your beloved quotes from Spinal Tap--"So what's wrong with being sexy it's like we have armadillos in our trousers or but these go to get no reaction

6. The other person quotes Billy Madison.

7. You hit triple digits on the cable box, decide to cycle through once more, and realize that What Women Want is still the best option.

8. You spend more than an hour and a half a day in the gym. What's the point of building all those muscles if you don't get out once in a while and use them?

9. You've been intro-duced to someone three times, and he still doesn't remem-ber your name. Don't be angry. Just smile and let him know you've met several times, and you remember him well. You now own his ass.

10. She says it's enough to have seen the Eiffel Tower in Vegas.

11. You try to forget how much your ex-girlfriend made you laugh, or how much your ex-boss made you cry--as if selectively erasing major parts of your life were possible without being kidnapped by a government agency.

12. The speaker says, "Please hold your applause until I finish reading all the names." Break out your BlackBerry, get something done.

13.You watch any movie featuring a mischievous kid who advises adults.

14. She asks during your first conversation, "So, what do you like to do for fun?" which is the single dumbest question that can ever be asked of a person. Our advice: Just smile and answer, "It's not what, but who."

15. You look at your watch during any activity. Either find something you really want to do or stop wearing a watch.

16. You listen to John Mayer for any other reason than to get a woman to take off her shirt.

17. You give your honest feedback to someone who says, "I want your honest feedback."

18.You read any e-mail with the subject line "This is not a hoax."

19. You allow someone more than 3 minutes to try to change your opinion. If he can't do it in that window, say, "Look, Ed, you're not going to change my view here. So let's stop pissing away valuable minutes and talk about something else." (Except the weather, of course.)

Budget Cut (To the Bone of the Poor)

Apparently the government is broke. With the budge deficit and spending are looming, the Congress is trying to slash some expenses. Since Bush has become the President, the Republican is heavily criticized by their own constituents of being a big spender and lack of fiscal discipline.

Ironically, every time I watch the debate between these two parties, if the issue of the size of the federal government or the fiscal policy is raised, I can count on the argument of the Republican that the Democrat is the big and irresponsible spender. This argument is like the mandatory argument that every good Republican has to learn how to say it out loud without shame and thinking.

However, the federal government under Bush has spent money like no tomorrow. He has never vetoed any single bills that his allies from the Republican congress put on his desk.

The Republican- the friend of the big business but are elected by the poor in the backward country- proposes to cut the expenses like student loans, benefit to the veteran and disabled citizen, Medicaid, Medicare. Those cut will cut directly to the poor. Very Few congressmen are willing to give up their porks. The Sen. Ted Stevens, the Republican from Alaska threatened the Senate to resign if his propose: The Bridge to Nowhere: A National Embarrassment was defeated. While the Republican defeated the bill to help the low-income people on emergency heating expenses, Ted Stevens receives $1.5 billion in total cost.

Sad, sad and sad.

Every time when emergency happens, the poor get hit first. Every time when the government wants to cut so-called unnecessary expenses, the welfare for the poor people is almost always got rid of first.

The Bush rewards the rich by tax cuts, the oil industry by tax breaks and the poor by benefit cutting. It seems to me these poor and conservative people who elected the Republican President and the congress are too busy of jamming their heads with issues like abortion and gay rights.

Who cares if most of the people in the country will have less food on the table, no money for their children to the college, no health care for the seniors and children?

When this kind of situation occurs, we always see the true nature of these politicians. They always say they are serving and representing us but when the time of emergency comes, they always leave us bleeding to death.
